No sé acerca de la hélice Volvo, pero acabo de comprar un Ewol en mayo para mi Freedom 32 para reemplazar mi ….. (tal vez la peor hélice nunca). Estoy muy entusiasmado con la Ewol, todo lo que cuentan es verdad. Tengo más maniobrabilidad, más velocidad navegando y a motor, y menos consumo de combustible. Mi barco está en Hilton Head Island SC y desde mi puerto deportivo para salir a navegar tengo que salir a motor por Harbor River, a veces contra corrientes de 4-5 nudos (a veces dificulta también salir de tierra desde el muelle). Con Ewol el barco responde mejor y no tengo que luchar para salir del muelle. También he ganado 1,5-2 nudos de velocidad y tengo más tiempo para disfrutar de la navegación. No puedo estar más contento y recomiendo encarecidamente esta hélice.

I don’t know about Volvo propeller but I just bought an Ewol in May for my Freedom 32 to replace my ….. (maybe the worst propeller ever). I’m very enthusiast about the Ewol, everything they tell it’s true. I have more maneuverability, more speed sailing and motorizing, and less fuel consumption. My boat is in Hilton Head Island SC and from my marina to go sailing I have to motorize out of the creek through Harbor River, sometimes against 4-5 knots of currents (sometime makes difficult also leave land from the dock). With Ewol the boat is so responseve and I don’t need to fight to go out of the dock. I also gained 1.5-2 knots in speed and I have more time to enjoy sailing. I can not be more happy and I highly recommend this propeller.

Acabo de quitar mi M… e instalé la hélice EWOL que compré en el salón náutico “>Annapolis Boat Show. Es una hélice de 3 palas de 18″.
1) el vendedor en el stand estaba muy bien informado y es próximo con especificaciones técnicas. NUNCA habló mal de las hélices de la competencia… sólo señaló sus puntos fuertes y débiles… haciendo lo mismo con su producto.
2) el pedido se realizó con facilidad y la hélice se entregó intacta y a tiempo
3) Pensé que había un problema cuando fui a montar la hélice … técnico estaba en el teléfono conmigo de inmediato y durante todo el proceso … el problema era mío y no con la hélice
4) la mayor ventaja de esta hélice es la facilidad de instalación/desinstalación… 1 tornillo y ya está (no hay que preocuparse por perder la hélice debido a su ingeniería… perderla es casi imposible).
5) el aumento en el rendimiento fue sustancialmente mejor que mi M….

La próxima primavera voy a añadir a este post como voy a estar en un crucero de 3 semanas en el noreste y tendrá la oportunidad de utilizarlo en períodos prolongados.

De momento …. estoy contento.

I just removed my M… and installed the EWOL prop that I purchased at the boat show »>Annapolis Boat Show. It is a 3 blade 18″ prop.
1) the salesman at the booth was very knowledgeable and is forthcoming with tech specs. He NEVER bad mouthed the competition’s propellers…he just noted their strengths and weak points…doing the same for his product
2) the order went through easily and prop was delivered in tact and on time
3) I thought there was an issue when I went to mount the prop…technical was on the phone with me immediately and throughout the process..the issue was mine and not with the prop
4) the biggest advantage of this prop is the ease of installation/removal…1 bolt and it’s in (no worries about losing the prop because of its engineering…losing it is nearly impossible).
5) the increase in performance was substantially better than my M….

Next spring I will add to this post as I will be on a 3 week cruise in the Northeast and will have a chance to use it on prolonged periods.

So far….I am happy.

Tengo un Passport 37 con un Yanmar 3GM30FV. Anteriormente tenía una hélice fija de 3 palas de 16″. Mantengo mi barco en un puerto deportivo en Newport, RI donde tengo que ser capaz de maniobrar en espacios reducidos.
No sé de Volvo prop pero desde que he reemplazado mi hélice con un Ewol 16″ hace tres años el barco ha mejorado definitivamente la maniobrabilidad, especialmente en marcha atrás.
Tengo que decir que la atención al cliente ha sido excelente.

I have a Passport 37 with a Yanmar 3GM30FV. Previously I had a 3 blade 16″ fixed prop. I keep my boat in a marina in Newport, RI where I need to be able to maneuvre in tight spaces.
I do not know about Volvo prop but since I’ve replaced my propeller with an Ewol 16″ three years ago the boat has definitively improved maneuverability, especially in reverse.
I have to say that customer support has been excellent.

Utilicé una hélice fija de dos palas V…. durante unos cinco años. Nunca tuve ningún problema con ella. Sin embargo, no me gustaba el hecho de que cuando navegaba tenía que tener la transmisión en marcha y he oído historias de que cuando se navega rápido puede llegar a girar el motor hacia atrás y aspirar agua (aunque nunca me ha pasado). Intenté algunas veces dejar la marcha en punto muerto, como algunos han recomendado, pero el motor temblaba bastante y no me sentía cómodo con ello. Me explicaron que este temblor era un síntoma de la gran cantidad de resistencia que tiene la hélice fija (que parece más de lo que yo hubiera pensado).
También quería reducir la resistencia al navegar (es divertido ir rápido cuando las condiciones son adecuadas).
Hice una gran cantidad de investigación sobre las hélices de pluma vs plegables y ya que mi barco se maneja como un sueño, tanto en avance como en retroceso, quería mantener o tal vez mejorar estas características. Decidí que la hélice plegable era la única opción.
Empecé a investigar y comparar todas las hélices de pluma que pude encontrar y estuve en el salón náutico de Dusseldorf tres años seguidos, dos de los cuales pasé bastante tiempo mirando e inspeccionando “con las manos en la masa” a los distintos fabricantes en los salones.
Tomé mi decisión final en base a lo que en mi mente era la hélice mejor diseñada, también la más cara, pero esto es a menudo el caso, pero no siempre.
En cualquier caso, monté la nueva hélice Ewol el pasado mes de junio y, aunque creo que me gustaría retocarla un poco (una característica muy buena de la Ewol), estoy llegando con bastante facilidad y rapidez al extremo superior de las rpm máximas. Sin retocarlo tengo una velocidad máxima mucho mejor, tengo la misma velocidad de crucero que la hélice V….. a 2000 rpms. La marcha atrás es mejor con la Ewol, creo que porque es de tres palas en lugar de las dos de la V….. La experiencia de navegación es muy notable y realmente me hace sonreír. Especialmente con poco viento. El barco me parece más “resbaladizo”. Por supuesto, es difícil documentarlo con pruebas fehacientes, pero creo que estoy consiguiendo entre 1 y 1,5 nudos con vientos de hasta 20 nudos.
El verano que viene lo ajustaré un poco e informaré.
También pagué un extra para pulir la hélice (pensando que la mantendría limpia con una almohadilla de 3m). Esto fue en contra de la recomendación de Ewol. Fue un error, así que este invierno la desbastaré un poco y usaré la pintura que recomiendan.

I used a V…. two blade fixed propeller for about five years. Never had any problems with it. However I didn’t like the fact that when sailing I had to have the drive in gear and have heard stories about when sailing fast it can actually turn the engine over backwards and suck in water (never happened to me though). I tried a few times to leave the gear in neutral, as some have recommended, but the engine would shake quite a lot and I didn’t feel comfortable with that. It was explained to me that this shaking was a symptom of the large amount of drag that the fixed propeller actually has (which seems more than I would have thought).
Also I wanted to reduce drag when sailing (it is fun to go fast when conditions are right).
I did a huge amount of research about feathering vs. folding propellers and since my boat handles like a dream both in forward and reverse, I wanted to keep or maybe improve these characteristics. I decided that the feathering prop was the only way.
I started to research and compare all of the feathering propellers I could find and was at the boat show in Dusseldorf three years in a row two of which I spent a good bit of time looking and inspecting « hands on » the various manufacturers at the shows.
I made my final decision based on what in my mind was the best engineered propeller, also the most expensive, but this is often the case but not always.
Any way I mounted the new Ewol propeller this last June and although I think I would like to teak it a bit (an extremely nice feature with the Ewol) as I am getting quite easily and quickly to the high end of the maximum rpm. Without tweaking it I have a much better top speed, I have the same cruising speed as the V…. prop. at 2000 rpms. Reverse is better with the Ewol, I think because it is three blades instead of the V…. two. The sailing experience is very noticeable and a really makes me smile. Especially in light air. The boat just seems more « slippery » to me. Of course it is difficult to document with hard evidence, but I believe I am getting a good 1 to 1.5 knots in winds up to 20 knots.
Next summer I will tweak it a bit and report back.
Also I paid extra to get the prop polished (thinking that I would just keep it clean with a 3m pad). This was against the recommendation of Ewol. It was a mistake, so this winter I will rough it up a bit and use the paint they recommend.

Elegí un EWOL, todo de acero inoxidable, comparado con mi fijo de tres palas, ganancia a vela +0,7 kts, ganancia a motor 1 kts. Lo más sorprendente es, cuando pongo el barco marcha atrás, ¡la potencia del frenado! Facilitó mucho las maniobras a babor. Es bonito, indestructible y no demasiado caro. El ajuste del paso es muy fácil de hacer. ¡Es la mejor compra que he hecho en mi barco en los últimos años!

J’ai choisi une EWOL, toute inox, par rapport à ma tripale fixe, gain sous voile +0,7 nds, gain au moteur 1 nds Le plus surprenant et, lors du passage de la marche arrière, la puissance du freinage !! Çà m’a terriblement simplifier les manœuvres de port. Elle est belle, indestructible et pas trop chère. De plus, le réglage de pas est d’une simplicité enfantine. C’ est le meilleur achat que j’ai effectué sur mon bateau ces dernières années!
